Privacy Policy
IMPA Matrimony helps adults and their families find a life partner. This page explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how you stay in control. We have written it to match how the service actually works.
What we collect
- Sign-in details: your mobile number or email address, and a password you choose. The password is stored only as a salted one-way hash, so nobody at IMPA can read it. We do not send a confirmation code in this version, so your number or email is saved as you typed it and is not confirmed by us. If our staff entered your profile for you, they typed the details you gave them and recorded how you agreed.
- Profile details you choose to enter: name, date of birth, gender, height, education, profession, caste and community, city, family details, about you, and optional horoscope details such as birth star, time and place of birth.
- Partner preferences you set for the kind of match you are looking for.
- Photos you upload. Each photo is reviewed by our team before other members can see it.
- Activity: interests you send and receive, your shortlist, hidden profiles, saved searches and the messages you exchange with members whose interest you have accepted.
- Reports and safety records: reports you make or that are made about your profile, and a log of moderation actions.
- Technical data: your session is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in, and our servers record ordinary request logs for security.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers, and we do not sell your data.
Who can see what
- Other members see your first name and the first letter of your last name, never your full name.
- Your phone number or email and your exact birth time and place are shown to another member only after an interest between you has been accepted.
- Your photos are shown according to the visibility you choose, and only after review. Members who have not been approved see a placeholder.
- Your age, height, city, education, profession, community, horoscope star and partner preferences are visible to signed-in members of the opposite gender who are not hidden from you.
- A small number of staff can see reports, photos awaiting review and profile details when needed to keep the service safe. Their actions are logged.
Why we use your data
To sign you in, show your profile to suitable members, suggest matches, let members contact each other, review photos and reports, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with the law. We do not make automated decisions that have legal effects on you. Compatibility (porutham) shown on profiles is calculated from the stars both members entered, and is only an indication.
Keeping and deleting your data
- You can edit your profile at any time, pause it so others cannot find it, or delete your account from My profile. Deleting erases your profile, photos, interests, shortlist and messages.
- Some records may be kept for a limited time where the law requires it or to handle a safety complaint, such as report and moderation logs.
- Backups are overwritten on a regular cycle, so deleted data leaves backups within 14 days.
Your rights
You may ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, erase it, or withdraw your consent, and you may complain about how we handle it. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you also have the right to nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf. Write to us using the contact below and we will reply within a reasonable time.
Children
IMPA Matrimony is only for people aged 18 or over. We remove profiles we learn belong to someone younger.
Security
Connections use HTTPS, passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes, sessions expire and photo links are signed and short-lived. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a password you use nowhere else, protect your own device and never share your password.
Where your data is stored
Our servers are hosted in Google Cloud, in its Mumbai (India) data centre. Text messages and emails that deliver your sign-in code are sent through Twilio and MSG91 (text messages) and Resend (email), which receive your number or address only for that purpose.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell members on the website before it takes effect.
